Soft Tissue Allograft

Soft Tissue Allograft treatment at Pikes Peak Periodontics in Colorado Springs, CO

When gum recession exposes the roots of your teeth, a soft tissue allograft can restore the gum line without taking tissue from the roof of your mouth. At Pikes Peak Periodontics in Colorado Springs, Dr. Ursula M. Price uses carefully processed, medically screened donor tissue to rebuild lost gum tissue, cover exposed roots, and protect your teeth from further recession.

Why You Might Need a Soft Tissue Allograft

Receding gums can be caused by aggressive brushing, periodontal (gum) disease, grinding, or simply genetics. Left untreated, recession exposes the softer root surface, which can lead to sensitivity, root decay, and eventually tooth or bone loss. An allograft re-covers these areas to reduce sensitivity, improve the look of your smile, and create a stable, healthy gum line.

What to Expect

The procedure is performed in our Colorado Springs office under local anesthesia. Dr. Price places the donor tissue over the area of recession and secures it so it can integrate with your natural gums. Because tissue does not need to be harvested from your palate, many patients find an allograft more comfortable than a traditional gum graft, with a single, smaller surgical site.

Recovery and Aftercare

Most patients return to normal activities within a day or two. You will receive specific instructions on eating, oral hygiene, and activity while the graft heals over the following weeks. Mild swelling or tenderness is normal and usually managed with over-the-counter pain relief. See our post-op instructions for full details.

If you have noticed your gums pulling back or your teeth looking longer, early treatment gives the best result. Call Pikes Peak Periodontics at (719) 548-1711 or request an appointment to find out whether a soft tissue allograft is right for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a soft tissue allograft safe?

Yes. The donor tissue used in an allograft is rigorously screened, sterilized, and processed by accredited tissue banks to be safe and biocompatible before it is ever used in treatment.

Does a soft tissue allograft hurt?

The procedure is done under local anesthesia, so you will not feel pain during treatment. Because tissue is not taken from the roof of your mouth, post-operative discomfort is often less than with a traditional gum graft and is easily managed with over-the-counter pain medication.

How long does it take to heal?

Initial healing usually takes one to two weeks, with the graft fully integrating over several weeks. Dr. Price will give you aftercare instructions to support healing and protect the new tissue.
