Frenectomy

Frenectomy treatment at Pikes Peak Periodontics in Colorado Springs, CO

A frenectomy is a quick, minor procedure to release a frenulum — a small band of tissue that can restrict movement of the lips or tongue. At Pikes Peak Periodontics in Colorado Springs, Dr. Ursula M. Price performs frenectomies for both children and adults using techniques designed for comfort and fast healing.

When a Frenectomy Is Needed

A frenulum that is too tight or attached too close to the gums can cause several problems: a tongue-tie that affects speech, eating, or nursing in infants; a gap between the front teeth; or pulling on the gums that leads to recession. Releasing the band restores normal movement and protects your gum health.

What to Expect

The procedure is performed under local anesthesia and usually takes only a few minutes. In many cases Dr. Price can use a dental laser, which minimizes bleeding, often requires no stitches, and can shorten healing time.

Recovery and Aftercare

Healing is typically fast and uncomplicated. You may have minor soreness for a few days, and you will be given simple aftercare and stretching instructions when appropriate. Most patients resume normal eating and activity right away.

If you or your child has a tight frenulum affecting speech, feeding, or gum health, we are here to help. Call Pikes Peak Periodontics at (719) 548-1711 or request an appointment.
